Preparatory Course For Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate Of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination

The Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination is conducted in Singapore annually (October / November). Candidates’ applications to sit the examination are accepted on the condition that they adhere to all the regulations governing the examination.

For Singapore Citizens and Singapore PRs only.

Academic Programme

This programme is wholly delivered in Singapore. Maximum class size is 18, with an average teacher-to-student ratio of 1:7.

Most of the lessons will be conducted in classrooms or laboratories. Occasionally field trips, excursions, inter-class competitions, etc are organised for the students.

Resources and materials provided for students includes subject textbooks, past year questions and supplementary notes. Additional references for further reading can be found in the SmartLab library.

Science practical sessions are conducted for candidates studying Science in SmartLab® Education Private School. We are equipped with lab equipment similar to that of the school laboratories.Candidates taking a package must select 5 subjects from above (2 core subjects compulsory).
Note that a humanity subject is compulsory for the admission of local junior college.

Course Admission Criteria

Students admitted to the Preparatory Course for Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination must meet the following requirements:

For Year 2 (S4) students:

  • Applicants must be at least 15 years of age as of 1st January of the year they will be taking the course.
  • Completed Sec 2
  • A pass in Sec 2 English

For Year 1 (S3) candidate:

  • Applicants must be at least 15 years of age as of 1st January of the year they will be taking the GCE O’ level.
  • Completed Sec 2
  • A pass in Sec 2 English

The Preparatory Course For Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination for 2017 will cease after the last week of October.

There will be no lessons on gazetted public holidays.

O level in October & November 2017


Pathways

  1. Enroll in local Junior Colleges and Centralised Institutes for a 2/3 year course leading to GCE A Level examinations (Min 6 Preparatory Course For Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination subjects are required).
  2. Enroll in local Polytechnics for a 3 year course leading to various diplomas.
  3. Enroll in local Institute of Technical Education (ITE) leading to various National ITE Certificate (Nitec).


Assessment

Students will be formally assessed in the GCE ‘O’ Level examinations held annually. The oral examinations are usually from June to August. Practical and written examinations are usually from October to November.

To prepare the students for the formal assessments, SmartLab will conduct internal assessments to test the students via written tests, oral tests, practical and written examinations.

Fee Protection Scheme (FPS)

For every Private School student (local and international), SmartLab Education Private School puts in place the Fee Protection Scheme (the “FPS”) by way of a Student Tuition Fee Account (Escrow) pursuant to the terms and conditions of the standard PEI-student contract made between the student and SmartLab.
