Farrer Park
Centre and Bishan Centre
The lessons are conducted at Farrer Park Centre, while the laboratory
sessions are conducted at Bishan Centre where it boasts a full range of
school lab equipment. With the use of GCE “O” level laboratories and
Cambridge International Examination (CIE, University of Cambridge)
marking schemes, these help the students prepare for the laboratory
examinations.
Communication with Students and Parents
SmartLab maintains a 2-way communication channel with both the students
and parents. They can phone in, walk in, email or even SMS any of the
Customer Service Officer (CSO) and Teachers. Students are asked to
conduct frequent surveys on the teachers. This feedback allows the
teachers/CSO to improve on any shortcomings while validating some of the
good practice that is adopted by the teachers.
Exam Focus Teaching
Teachers zoom in on the key foundation/principal points of each chapter
and subsequently drill the students on the popular variants of the
examination questions.
Test, Continual Assessments, Semester
Assessments and Preliminaries
The main objective of this course is to improve the grades of the
students. As such, the teachers continuously give tests, CAs, SAs and
preliminary examination to gear the students. Teachers debrief the
students after each assessment and guide them how they can improve and
do better next time. After each CA, SA and preliminary, the parents are
updated about the students’ progress, and an improvement plan is
developed for each student.
Meet the Parents Sessions
After the SA1 and preliminary, parents are invited for a discussion
about the student’s progress in studies. For parents who could not make
the session due to work commitments, the operations manager will make a
house call to discuss the ways that we are doing to help the students.
Extra Lessons for Students
During the school holidays, the teachers make an effort to give extra
lessons in order to brush up the skills of the students. Students are
recommended for weekend tuition classes at FOC, allowing them close
supervision from the teacher.
Improvement Awards and Gifts
We recognize the students’ efforts this year and two of the private
school students had received trophies for their persistence and
willingness to work hard. At the end of year, each student was also
presented gifts, commending their efforts that they had put in.
Outdoor Activities
The Geography students went for 2-day trips to Bukit Timah Hill and
Pulau Ubin. The purpose of the day trips was to show how the tropical
vegetation in Singapore has evolved. On 27th November 2008, the private
school students will have a match up with the SmartLab teachers in
street soccer.
